The story behind "Cedar Gandy" :
Well it started back in July of 2013. We were 10 months into marriage, my amazing brother had just moved across the ocean (which felt like oceans), and we were talking about adding a 4th UPS Store to our existing 3...transition was in the air and I felt it. I had been working for an amazing design firm, PolleiDesign Works for 6 years, yet I was finding myself wondering and dreaming about the possibly of something new and different. Jordan, my handsome and amazing husband suggested I start a 30 day prayer journal, and that's what I did. Four months and two journals later, I was clearly being lead down a different path, a path I thought I would never go down—stepping out of my design position and stepping into the world of a self employed designer- entrepreneur.
This whole thing felt like a huge risk, but I wanted to have faith and trust what I felt like God was calling me to. "Cedar Gandy" popped into my head one morning during my quiet time when I was praying about what the name of this "risk" should be. I immediately loved it, but had no idea the context of it. So I looked up "cedar" in the dictionary. "Yield fragrant", "durable timber", "cone-bearing"— yep, loved it already so I looked it up in the bible. Since this was something I was doing with God in faith, when I came across Solomon building the temple for the Lord in 1 Kings and read that it was out of fragrant producing cedar wood something clicked. I wanted to build this "risk" into a business and do it with God and for God that it might became a "fragrant yielding" business. Then when I came across Ezekiel 17:23-24 I was done! "It will become a majestic cedar, sending forth its branches and producing seed. Birds of every sort will nest in it, finding shelter in the shade of its branches. And all the trees will know that it is I, the Lord, who cuts the tall tree down and makes the short tree grow tall. It is I who makes the green tree wither and gives the dead tree new life. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do what I said!”
So welcome to Cedar Gandy; it's an amazing dream to be here and I can't take any of the credit.
